UniGuide SL

AI-powered university pathway advisor for Sierra Leonean students

UniGuide SL is a platform that helps Sierra Leonean secondary school students navigate the complex university admissions process. Students answer a guided questionnaire about their grades, interests, and goals, and receive personalised recommendations for universities, courses, and scholarship opportunities โ€” both locally and internationally. The platform also provides step-by-step application guides and connects students with alumni mentors who attended their target institutions.

The Challenge

The university admissions process in Sierra Leone is fragmented โ€” information is scattered across institution websites, word of mouth, and expensive private advisors. First-generation university students, especially those outside Freetown, have almost no structured guidance.

Key Features

AI-driven pathway quiz that maps grades, interests and goals to degree programmes

Comprehensive database of universities across Sierra Leone, West Africa, and internationally

Scholarship discovery engine with eligibility filters and deadline tracking

Step-by-step application guides for each institution

Alumni mentor matching โ€” connect with people who went where you want to go

Mobile-first design that works on low-bandwidth connections

Krio language support for accessibility across all student demographics

The Outcome

Within 8 months of launch, UniGuide was being used by counsellors in 12 secondary schools across three districts. Three students using the platform received international scholarships they said they would never have discovered otherwise.
